BOSTON (WHDH) -- A large piece of concrete fell from the ceiling onto a platform filled with passengers at the Forest Hills ‘T’ stop.

“It’s kind of old, and you don’t know what could happen,” said Anthony Hicks, a commuter.

Fortunately, no one was standing on the platform when the concrete fell. MBTA officials say engineers were brought in to see if other pieces are at risk of falling as well.

Commuters are concerned.

“It should be safe; a lot of people come through this station. You shouldn't have to worry about your safety when you're taking public transportation,” said Suzy Parish, a commuter.

Others told 7News they intentionally avoid the Forest Hills stop, calling it dilapidated and disgusting.

“We're skipping that option, even though it's more comfortable, once you get on the train. To take this, at least it’s not going to fall on my head, or be gross, or be dripping,” one woman said.

It's unclear what caused the piece of concrete to break free, but MBTA officials said any other loose pieces would be removed.

Riders wonder why it's just being noticed now.

“I’m always concerned about this transportation system. I don’t know where the money goes,” one man said. “MBTA stands for ‘Money Being Thrown Away.’”
