BOSTON (WHDH) -- A snow emergency and parking ban is still in effect in Boston as plows work to keep the streets clear.

Winter in the city has a gorgeous side and an ugly side. We all know the snow emergency drill.

“They're running around with trucks with the speaker phone on saying they're gonna tow cars. Get out by 9 or they're gonna get towed,” said Stuart Freilich.

"We should have about 200 pieces of equipment, both city and contractors. Our guys are up for this we've been waiting for this first real big storm of the

Season,” said Joanne Massaro, commissioner, Boston Public Works.

There is an upside to this storm falling on a holiday weekend.

There are still parking spaces to be had. But it also means a lot of people still on vacation will find their cars towed when they come home.

So let's get back to the beautiful side of winter in the city.

“I think it's awesome. We're from San Diego. We came to visit my friends and this is great, I’ve never seen real snow,” said Christine Doherty.

“I hate snow, I do. I'm sick of it!” said Jessica Gilchrist.

Finally, a local girl. She's a lucky one. She did not have to re-park her car.
