BOSTON (WHDH) -- A Boston College women’s soccer player was suspended after sending what many are calling tasteless tweets regarding the Penn State sex abuse scandal involving Jerry Sandusky.

While at Penn State for a tournament, the soccer star tweeted several messages including:

"I wonder if well get into the visitors locker room at Penn state…I hear the showers are 10 and under,” and, “raping at Penn State to getting raped in state Penn #beatPennState #santouchsky #legggooeags."

Penn State is still reeling over the child sex-abuse scandal involving Jerry Sandusky. And offended students like Carolyn Lasky fought back, writing to BC coaches and administrators.

“I just hope that she realizes that what she’s saying is completely disrespectful, inappropriate, not funny. And that kind of behavior won’t be tolerated,” Lasky said.

Lasky ended up getting an apology by the soccer player.

"I now realize how inappropriate and disgusting my tweets were today I want you to know I now realize how wrong and sorry I am for my actions…I regret all of my actions from the bottom of my heart."

Some students thought the tweets were tasteless, but not malicious.

“I doubt that she meant anything by it. She’s probably just trying to incite more competition between schools,” said Jose Miranda, BC student.

Others say those messages are in no way representative of the student body.

“It's not helping the student body at Penn State heal from the pain that they’ve experienced and it doesn’t show very much class as a human being regardless of what school you go to,” said Daniel Boyd, BC student.

The Boston College athletic director says the player has been suspended and will not be playing against Penn State.
