BOSTON (AP) -- U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano will be the keynote speaker at Northeastern University's Veterans Day ceremony.

She's scheduled to give her remarks Monday afternoon at the Boston school's Veterans Memorial.

Northeastern dedicated the memorial in 2006 to honor students and alumni who died while carrying out military duties.

The university's Reserve Officers' Training Corps Alumni Society also plans a candlelight remembrance Monday to honor veterans.

Northeastern officials say faculty members are active in research that relates to national security, including explosives detection, cyber defense, robotics and data security.

Napolitano's appearance in Boston will come a day after she visited relief workers in a storm-ravaged borough of New York City.
