BOSTON (WHDH) -- The swans at the Public Gardens are singing their own "swan song."

Crews waded into the pond, to take them out of the water, on Thursday.

The birds are going to the Franklin Park Zoo for the winter.

"It's a lot more comfortable for them. They’re not quite wild animals, even though people think they are. They’re a non native species, they don't migrate,” said Brian O’Connor of the Boston Animal Rescue League.

The swans make their big return around Mother's Day, next year.
