BROOKLINE, Mass. (WHDH) -- Many are stocking up on groceries, generators and more in preparation of Hurricane Sandy, creating a business boom.

Ice and dry ice are already hot commodities with Halloween around the corner but the prospect of power outages from Hurricane Sandy has kept Brookline Ice busier than ever.

"Many of the restaurants and hotels and facilities like that will purchase it ahead of time just to hedge their bets as insurance. The last thing they want to do is call and we don't have it,” said Anthony Bott, CEO of Brookline Ice Co.

Bottled water has been flying off the shelves at Roche Brothers in Wellesley.

"It's been unbelievable. We sold a ton of water,” said Bob Griffin.

Up front the store is making it easy to pick up storm supplies. Patrick Summers is one of this picking up water, soup, matches and other items.

"I’ve been around New England long enough that the good, the bad happen and you just want to make sure you have the staples you need,” said Summers.

The folks at Brookline Ice said the Boston blackout last March and the power outages from the last Halloween storm actually were tougher to handle because no one saw those coming.
