BOSTON (WHDH) -- Police arrested a third person in the recent string of armed robberies near Boston University.

The third suspect turned himself in to police just hours after the second arrest.

One 15-year-old suspect turned himself in Thursday night. Brookline police said the second suspect, a 17-year-old male, was arrested Friday afternoon.

This comes after police released surveillance video Wednesday of the suspects in at least two of the armed robberies. Police say the suspects stole cellphones, backpacks and wallets. One female student told police a suspect put a gun to her face and threatened to shoot her.

Students are pleased about the arrests and surprised at the young age of the suspects.

"It definitely feels a little bit better that they may have apprehended all three of them," said Matt Acosta, a student.

“I think it’s great. I’ve been a little concerned walking home recently. So now I can walk home feeling more secure,” said a BU student, Kathleen Blank.

“I was surprised. At the beginning they were saying 13 to 20. So I was hearing it might be about a gang initiation. I don’t know, but it is scary that the kids are so young,” said another student, Meredith Connor.

The suspects are charged with two of the four armed robberies. Police said they may be involved in the other two as well but that has not been confirmed.
