BOSTON (WHDH) -- Mayor Tom Menino talking tough as he announced a crisis re-entry plan for inmates who may be released due to the state crime lab scandal.

Menino's plan creates target teams that will case manage each individual released, beginning with mandatory pre-release visits to give inmates information on jobs, housing, health care and education.

Resources for Boston Police will also be increased. The teams begin Friday at the State Department of Corrections.

Former chemist Annie Dookhan is accused of mishandling thousands of pieces of evidence.

She admitted to investigators that she faked test results and forged signatures.

The mayor said her actions are now possibly jeopardizing the safety of others.

“It’s unfortunate that one person can cause such harm to the legal process. And in turn such potential for harm for our neighbors of the city and state,” said Mayor Menino.

The mayor said he'll seek federal and state aid for the plan that also includes police overtime to deter new crimes and street violence.

Conley said last week up 500 inmates, including some "pretty dangerous people," may be released in Boston.
