BOSTON (WHDH) -- There was more fallout Friday from the Jamaica Plain state lab scandal; one the Suffolk County District Attorney's office said was a huge waste of time and energy.

Boston Municipal Court called a special session today for 19 suspects, whose drug cases were supposed to be related to Annie Dookhan. Rather, only five cases had a direct connection.

“If their motivation is to address these cases quickly, I share that, but you know, there's an old proverb, ‘haste makes waste.’” said Dan Conley, Suffolk County district attorney.

Dookhan, a former chemist with the state's public health department was arrested last week. She allegedly admitted to tampering evidence and drug samples in thousands of cases across Massachusetts.

Stephanie Ford just learned her fiancé’s case may be one of them. Her fiancé is one of nearly 1,100 criminals who could be released because of what happened at the state lab.

“He’s missed everything. His son walking, talking, he’s missed it all. I know that hurts him, it hurts me,” said Ford.

The state offices are working with the courts to hold special hearings, trying to get through as many cases as possible.

“We're already stressed. In my office, we have somewhere around 42,000 cases that we handle every year. And essentially what has happened is another 25 to 30,000 cases have been dumped in our laps,” said Conley.

On Oct. 15 the court will hold more special sessions for anyone whose case was affected by Dookhan.
