HYDE PARK, Mass. (WHDH) -- Ripped from the front yard and apparently hauled off toward the street; a statue was stolen from a Hyde Park family's front lawn.

But the Fiore’s say the person who took it made off with a lot more than a lawn ornament.

A 60-pound cement Springer Spaniel used to sit on the family’s front lawn; a small monument to a beloved family dog whose ashes were buried beneath it.

“Every day I would go out and then come home, and I would look at that statue. And I just felt like he was watching over us,” said Gail Fiore.

“The fence here was broken, obviously the statue was missing and you could see the trail of mulch,” Ronnie Fiore said.

The Fiore family called police when they saw the dog was gone. They say the statue is worth more to them than anyone who has it now.

“We just want the statue back. Plain and simple,” Ronnie Fiore said.

The Fiore's have a new puppy now -- one that gives them lots of joy -- but they say their old dog deserved a permanent place with the family, a spot they thought they'd made.

“He was a beautiful and loving dog. We just couldn’t love him enough,” said Gail Fiore.

The Fiore’s say they had put out Halloween decorations near the memorial last fall which were also stolen.
