BOSTON (AP) -- Massachusetts officials say a United Airlines flight that was diverted to Boston because of a suspicious item found in an unclaimed seat has landed safety and the item has turned out to be a camera.

Police say United Airlines Flight 956 was heading from Newark, N.J., to Geneva, Switzerland, on Tuesday when it was diverted to Logan International Airport in Boston.

Massachusetts Port Authority spokesman Richard Walsh said the plane landed safely Tuesday night and would be checked by law enforcement officials at a staging area.

State police spokesman Thomas Murphy said the camera was X-rayed and deemed harmless. The flight took off about an hour and a half after the unscheduled stop.
