BOSTON (WHDH) -- Strong thunderstorms across the Bay State Friday caused damage to some homes.

A bolt of lightning touched off as firefight at a home in Natick.

“It was just engulfed and really scary,” said Heather Zwirblia.

A Worcester home was attacked by a fast moving fire after a lightning strike.

“I was out on my front porch and I heard this really loud crack it made me jump. Normally I’m not jumpy from lightning but that was terrible,” said Zwirblia.

The homeowner and his family weren't home, but he returned just in time to see the fire dept pulling up and his house in flames.

“I can’t stay here no I need to call Red Cross some place to sleep,” said Jose Atta, homeowner.

To make matters worse, part of the roof came crashing down.

“There was so much water and it got wet. There’s not a lot holding the wall board up. We were pulling a little bit to get up to look and it all just came down as one big -- the whole living room just dropped,” said Dep. Chief Stuart Howe, Worcester Fire Department.

Even after the fire was out, lightning was still scaring everyone:

“We saw the fire,” said Zwirblia.

It was similar scene in Natick. The wild weather caused some major damage to a home.

A neighbor who took video says a lightning strike started this fire. The family wasn't home.

And in Boylston, there was a close call with the lightning -- people living inside the house say a worker in the back yard was nearly hit by a bolt. They say it hit nearby. The victim only suffered some minor injuries.
