BOSTON (WHDH) – Despite the scorching temperatures Thursday, kids had some fun in the sun at the Rose Kennedy Greenway.

The refreshing sounds of summer: kids splashing around in the water.

“This is fantastic. We just came to the aquarium. We’ve got five kids running around in water and I had to join them,” said Heather Lyons.

There is a splash park in the middle of Boston that's able to keep hot kids cool.

“It's actually really fun,” one girl said.

“It cools me off because of the 99 degrees heat,” a boy said.

It is one of more than a dozen spray decks in Boston, giving parents a chance to watch their children in complete joy.

“The kids look like they’re having a blast,” one parent said.

“This is just fantastic. I love the city. It’s a little water park amongst all these tall buildings,” Lyons said.

Be it vapors or columns of water -- the kids ran around getting relief from the heat and couldn’t contain their excitement.

“What I like about it is that they’re all popping up one at a time and if you’re not looking, it’s like a surprise,” a girl said.

Some had a method to how they splash.

“I stand and wait till the water comes up,” one girl said.

While kids played in the water parks, others had some summer fun on the Charles River trying to catch a cool breeze on the water. And just trying to stay cool," said Katie MacDonald.

"It's been a warm couple of days so it's just nice to be outside where there's a little bit of a breeze

But all found the fun in chilling out this summer.
