MSPCA-Nevins Farm Pet of the Week: Captain Mal
Small, fluffy, cute and easy to train -- the very characteristics that make gerbils, members of the rodent family, such wonderful pets for kids and adults alike.
Gerbils require minimal upkeep -- a secure cage, some warm bedding and nesting material, gerbil food (that can be purchased in most animal shelters), an exercise wheel and plenty of fresh water -- is all anyone needs. Gerbils are incredibly clean and need their cage to be cleaned weekly. And most Gerbils, including Captain Mal who is available for adoption at the MSPCA-Nevins Farm in Methuen, Mass. also enjoy time out of their cage to be petted and handled -- every day.
Captain Mal is looking for a secure home with a conscientious owner who will take great care of him. He loves to cuddle and play and a home with some or no gerbil experience will do just perfectly.
