BOSTON (WHDH) -- Crews responded to the scene of a large water main break in Boston’s North End Friday night.

The break occurred at the intersection of Stillman and Endicott streets at about 8:30 p.m.

Crews worked to find the right valve to shut off the water in the area. Sidewalk flooding was minimal because catch basins collected most of the water.

“Our catch basins are accepting this water...There’s a couple of buildings from what I understand that had some flooding -- I just can’t verify that at this point...We’ll work through the night til it’s resolved and we’ll have water back here hopefully by the morning and it will look like nothing happened here,” said Tom Bagley, Boston Water and Sewer Commission spokesperson.

Some buildings' water was shut off late Friday night.

The Boston Fire Department said at least one building basement flooded.

7News was told as of 10 p.m., hundreds of gallons of water had spilled into the streets.
