12-year-old boy struck, killed in Allston
BOSTON (WHDH) -- Boston police said a 12-year-old boy was hit and killed by a car in Allston Thursday morning.
The accident happened just before 7 a.m. on Cambridge Street. It appears the child was on his way to school.
Police has not identified the victim. Boston Public Schools has said he was not one of their students.
Parents stopping by the Union Square area said their hearts sank after learning what happened.
“That’s awful. I have small kids myself…it’s just awful,” said Eric Pecjo, a parent.
The accident happened just feet from a Boston fire station. The child was pronounced dead at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital.
Police blocked off several streets and diverted traffic as investigators recreated the accident scene. The van involved in the accident was towed away.
“It’s a very congested area. A lot of streets merge here. You have a lot of commuters coming into the city for work and you have students not familiar with Boston driving around,” said Brian Pecjo.
Officials hope to release more information soon. The driver has not been cited or charged at this time.
