BOSTON (WHDH) -- Police say one person is dead and two people are in custody after a shooting at the Dudley Square bus station in Roxbury Thursday night.

Brian Cooper, 25, and 22-year-old Jamel Bannister were arraigned Friday on murder and other charges. Both suspects pleaded not guilty.

Police say the 26-year-old Courtney Jackson was shot several times at the station and stumbled onto a bus. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

“He was a good kid,” said Regina Kindell, victim’s friend.

The two suspects trying to flee on foot were quickly taken into custody by police.

“Boston police officers performing detail in the area of the Dudley train station heard gun shots. The officers responded towards the sounds of those gun shots and found two men fleeing from the area,” said Supt.-in- Chief Dan Linskey, Boston Police Department.

Police also recovered two weapons.

“There was a cop right here. There was two of them. They were like, ‘freeze,’ and he just got on the ground and they took his gun and they put him in handcuffs right here on the ground,” a witness told 7News.

Prosecutors say several MBTA cameras captured the shooting.

“The MBTA downloaded the video from the bus as well as the T station. The entire incident was caught on video,” said David Fredette, assistant district attorney.

Bannister’s attorney says his client was at the T station, but ran for cover like everyone else when he heard the gunfire.

“My client was generally in the area, fleed [sic] the scene like everybody else should for their own safety just hearing the sound. He was apprehended by a police officer because he was running,” said John Tardif, Bannister’s attorney.

Several witnesses were taken by bus to Boston Police headquarters to be interviewed by detectives.

“We’ve got numerous witnesses who’ve taken a bus with the cooperation of the MBTA police, we’ve taken a bus over to Boston Police headquarters where they’re all being interviewed,” said Chief Linskey.

There was no word on a motive.

Both suspects are being held without bail and are due back in court next month.
