BOSTON (WHDH) -- Commuters said it took up to three hours to get into Boston Monday morning, the first work day since a blizzard dumped about two feet of snow in the Bay State.

Rainy days and Mondays are one thing, but when the rain follows a blizzard you know the commute isn’t going to be pretty. Slushy roads were filled with puddles and views were blocked by giant mounds of snow.

“You can’t see around corners, but just look at how poor -- they’ve got to be pushing the snow at least six feet back!” said one man.

“[Tough] to get around, just one lane, a lot of people walking on the side or the middle of the streets,” said Dave Moody, a commuter. “It was pretty bad.”

Commuters in the city could only cringe after crawling along for hours trying to get to work. Motorists said it was gridlocked between the main routes and side roads.

For many the commute that normally takes an hour it was taking two hours, and in some cases it was taking three hours.

The commuter rail was running, but commuters said the train was delayed.

“The train was delayed and now the shuttle is late, so we’ll be late for school basically,” said Arthur Long, a frustrated commuter.

Those who took the commuter rail into North Station Monday morning recounted a longer commute than usual.

“It wasn’t bad. I was actually counting on the train being late but when you want it to be late it shows up on time,” said Mark Bappy, a commuter.

Most commuters said they figured it would be slow going getting to work Monday. Officials said commutes will be slow for the next few days as they remove snow mounds from the streets.
