Witnesses recount the Springfield gas explosion

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WHDH) -- Witnesses said the Springfield gas explosion was like a scene from a movie.
“We just heard a big boom and like shattered glass from the buildings was falling down,” said witness, Jasmine Evans.
It was the end of the world, I just seen everybody running with their kids and the glass shattered. It was very scary,” said Evans.
The explosion could be felt for miles. Jahbir Kahn's nearby convenience store was badly damaged.
“I was standing there talking and all of a sudden I heard the blast,” said Kahn.
The impact sent customers flying.
“We were thrown into the aisles. We were trying to run away. It literally was like a tidal wave thing,” said Elidio Tores.
“My first thought was a bomb. I thought you know, something, you know, bad was going on,” said Albert Fuster, who lives near the explosion.
“I looked out the window to see what was going on and a cop told me to evacuate, get out, so I grabbed my dogs and left the apartment,” he said.
A frightening scene for many, but authorities are just thankful this blast wasn't any worse.
There are a number of police cruisers still on scene. There are damaged windows block after block near the site of the explosion.
