PORTLAND, Maine (AP) -- The mother of a baby who allegedly killed by a 10-year-old girl in Maine wants the girl's mother to be held accountable for failing to provide supervision. But for now, the case is proceeding only against the girl.

Steve McCausland of the Maine Department of Public Safety said Friday that the investigation focused on the Fairfield girl who was charged a day earlier with manslaughter in the death of 3-month-old Brooklyn Foss-Greenaway of Clinton.

In Maine, the juvenile justice system is geared toward rehabilitation. The maximum punishment for a child is incarceration until age 21.
