UNDATED (WHDH) -- Like many Hollywood starlets, the world famous Hollywood sign is getting a makeover.

The giant letters will be stripped down to bare metal, primed and then given a new coat of white paint.

The project will be completed before the sign celebrates its 90th birthday next year.
