NATURE AND SCOPE

WHDH-TV, 7 News, Boston is pleased to offer a program of internship assignments to a limited number of qualified college students. Our internships are non-paid and will be for college credit only. Internships coincide with each particular school’s term, however, they should not be less than 6 weeks and no longer than 12 weeks. Students will be expected to work approximately 15-20 hours per week. Assignments are designed to supplement classroom study with actual hands-on experience, as students participate in special projects under the supervision of our professional staff. Interns receive no financial remuneration and ARE NOT in any way employees of WHDH. Participation in the program does not obligate WHDH to offer employment to the intern at any future time.

ELIGIBILITY

Candidates for internship assignments are selected without regard to age, sex, race, religion or national origin. Candidates must be college juniors, seniors or graduate students and must be available to spend a minimum of 15 hours per week in our station (maximum of 40 hours per week), for a minimum of one semester, quarter or summer session. Admission to the program is competitive, as more students may apply each term than we can accommodate. Decisions on admission to the program are made by our management staff, based primarily on academic achievement, verification of internship (“For Credit”), and recommendations from faculty members and previous employment.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE AND REQUIREMENTS

Interested candidates should submit verification from school, which authorizes them to internship for college credit, a copy of their resume and a letter of recommendation from a faculty member to the specific contact person/email address that is listed under the department you are most interested in interning.

NEWS- SPECIAL PROJECTS UNIT

Assist this group, which is responsible for special event coverage, feature stories and specialized segments of news such as political, medical or consumer stories. Provide clerical assistance and research support. Occasional field production assistance. Must be available at least two weekdays, 10am-6pm. DIGITAL WHDH.COM INTERNS

7 News is looking for an intern who loves breaking news to join our social media team for a semester.  Our social media intern will be involved in the development of news stories across all our social media sites/platforms.  You will be an important member of a team of online journalists who work to bring the latest breaking news to all who log on and listen live.   If interested in applying, send cover letter and resume to Scott at smaceachern@whdh.com.

NEWS-WEATHER

 As a 7News Weather Intern, you will receive top notch training and learn what it take to put together a weathercast (both traditional and digital format). Interns will get hands on experience with WSI TruView Max System as well as an opportunity to prepare and present a mock weathercast. Interns are responsible for helping to create weather graphics as well as assist 7News Meteorologists with various projects throughout the semester. SALES-WLVI

WLVI/CW 56-MS Word, Excel and Internet skills required for all Sales internships. Will assist sales team in preparation of sales materials.

SALES-WHDH

Sales interns will acquire working knowledge of how a TV station sales department can create partnerships that utilize sales promotional opportunities to benefit the station, it’s advertising sponsors and it’s viewers. Sales interns will help with client mailings, sales promotional pieces, sales events and contests, etc. Attending sales meetings and sales calls when appropriate. ART/GRAPHIC DESIGN/VISUAL MEDIA INTERNS

WHDH Creative Services department offers a unique opportunity for incoming Design interns to hone their skills in Motion Graphics Design while working for a well-known news station.  Interns will be working with media professionals to assist and develop on-air material.  Interns will gain valuable experience by doing hands-on projects under the supervision of the art director, will actively participate in developing on-air graphics and learning project workflow and have the opportunity for professional design critique and development.  Responsibilities will vary based on the intern’s skill level and area of interest.  Interns should have extensive knowledge with Photoshop, InDesign, Animation, 2D/3D Design and After Effects.  Must be available to work weekdays.  E-mail cover letter, portfolio and/or resume to the Attention of Matt Riva at mriva@whdh.com.

PROMOTIONS/ADVERTISING INTERNS

TV Production, Advertising, and related majors with good writing skills, understanding of editing/production. Our Promotions department is a subdivision of our Creative Services department that also includes chyron and graphics. As a Promotions intern you will assist our producers produce topical, ID’s and image spots, screen b-roll, log tapes, interviews, assist coordinators with putting together CW prime and syndication promo’s. SPORTS

Journalism or other majors with a basic knowledge of television production and overall understanding of college and professional sports, especially BOSTON sports, to be covered during the semester (rules of the game, major teams and athletes). Duties will include checking major sports websites for breaking news, logging game tapes, answering phones, etc. Opportunities to accompany crews in the field may exist. Sports interns log games, research stories, assist with details for upcoming sportscasts and assist with basic clerical support.

NEWSROOM AND ASSIGNMENT DESK

Assist with gathering news and information , taking and placing phone calls from reporters, sources and the general public. Research potential stories, confirm breaking news stories, assignment desk and clerical support as needed. Intern in the heart of the news operation days, evenings and/or weekends.
